Senior Account Executive, Mid-Market
HubSpot · Growth Suite Sales
HubSpot's mid-market motion is one of the most disciplined SaaS sales orgs in the US, and this seat is on a team that has cleared quota for eleven consecutive quarters. That kind of consistency is not luck; it is territory design, ramp support, and a MEDDPICC-native culture. If you are coming from a startup where the sales motion is still being figured out, this seat is a reset in the best sense of the word. Our members who land here typically come from a hyper-growth mid-market or SMB AE seat at Salesforce, Zoom, Slack, Asana, Monday.com, or Gong, and they usually reach out to us because they are hitting quota but not learning. The interview loop is famously rigorous — six rounds including a mock discovery call, a mock forecast review, a written business case, and a panel with two peer AEs who will grade you against their own bar. The peer round is where offers are made or killed, and it is where Marqee's edge shows up: we run mocks with three current HubSpot AEs in our network and you will practice their specific objection-handling patterns. On comp: the OTE range is honest but the accelerator structure is where the real money is — quota over 100% attainment kicks into a 1.5x multiplier, and top reps clear 300 percent of base in strong years. Ask about the president's-club threshold in the recruiter screen.
About the role
HubSpot is hiring a Senior Account Executive, Mid-Market on the Mid-Market Sales — Growth Suite team, reporting to Senior Sales Manager, Mid-Market. This is a full-time role based on-site in Cambridge, MA, with base compensation between $110,000–$135,000 plus equity (OTE $220K–$275K, uncapped commission).
The Mid-Market segment at HubSpot is defined as customers with 200–2,000 employees, buying the Growth Suite (Marketing Hub + Sales Hub + Service Hub + CMS + Ops Hub). This seat carries a $1.4M annual quota, split across net-new logo (60%) and cross-sell/expansion (40%). Territories are ZIP-code plus vertical-cut, allocated at fiscal-year start. You will inherit ~30 named accounts and pull the rest from marketing-sourced pipeline and self-sourced outreach.
HubSpot's culture is quota-driven but rigorously supportive — Cambridge HQ runs Monday morning pipeline reviews with the team, Tuesday deal-desk sessions with legal + sales engineering, and Friday close-out. Hybrid model: 3 days/week on-site (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) at the Seaport HQ. The peer culture is real — the Mid-Market team runs a private Slack channel where deal calls are dissected. Cynical or lone-wolf sellers do not last.
Day-to-day tools: HubSpot CRM (obviously — you sell it and use it), Gong for call review, Outreach for cadence, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, ZoomInfo for firmographic enrichment. MEDDPICC qualification is enforced in Salesforce-like discipline — every deal review starts with the last-updated MEDDPICC card. The 90-day ramp includes 4 weeks of "Bootcamp" (product certifications, mock discovery, mock demos), then progressive territory rollout with a shadow week alongside a senior AE.
What you'll do
- Own a book of mid-market prospects and existing accounts across the Growth Suite portfolio, driving net-new logos and expansion.
- Run disciplined discovery and qualification against MEDDPICC on every opportunity, with weekly forecast reviews.
- Partner with SDRs, sales engineers, and marketing to build territory plans and multithread the buying committee.
- Coach a peer or SDR through at least one deal cycle per quarter as part of HubSpot's mentorship rhythm.
- Contribute to written deal reviews and post-mortems that become part of the team's playbook.
What we need
Required
- 4–7 years of full-cycle SaaS closing experience, ideally with 2+ years in a mid-market segment ($20K–$200K ACV band).
- Documented quota attainment: three of the last four quarters at ≥100% with references who can verify the number.
- MEDDPICC (or MEDDIC/BANT) qualified — you can walk through your last three deals with an Economic Buyer, a Champion, and a Metric before I ask.
- Multi-threaded deal experience: complex buying committees with 4+ stakeholders (VP Sales/Marketing, IT/Security, Finance, executive sponsor).
- Comfort with in-office collaboration 3 days/week at Cambridge HQ; fully remote candidates are not considered for this seat.
Preferred
- Prior seat at Salesforce, Zoom, Slack, Asana, Monday.com, Gong, Zoominfo, Klaviyo, or Attentive — the mid-market SaaS bench HubSpot recruits from.
- Experience selling to marketing, RevOps, or CRO buyers specifically — HubSpot's ICP is heavily marketing-led.
- Past experience being a peer AE on a MEDDPICC-native team where deal reviews are public.
What HubSpot actually filters on: the peer-AE round grades whether you can dissect a losing deal as sharply as a winning one. Candidates who bring only wins get filtered. Candidates who bring one clean loss with a specific tactical lesson get further. Your strategist will help you select which loss to bring.
Compensation breakdown
Marqee's compensation team benchmarks every listing against private offer data from our placed-candidate network. Here is how the offer breaks down and where the real negotiation levers sit.
| Component | Range | Marqee read |
|---|---|---|
| Base salary | $110,000–$135,000 | 50/50 base/variable split. Band is set by tenure and prior-attainment; negotiation room is 4–8% at hire. |
| OTE at 100% quota | $220K–$275K | Uncapped. Assumes $1.4M annual quota attained. Above 100% attainment triggers accelerators. |
| Accelerator structure | 1.5x from 100–125%, 2.0x from 125%+ | The real money. Top-decile Mid-Market AEs cleared $450K–$600K in FY26. Ask about last-year's decile distribution during the recruiter screen. |
| Equity (RSU) | $30K–$60K / 4 years | Public HUBS RSUs. Refresh at 12-month mark based on quota attainment. Not a real lever at hire. |
| Signing bonus | $15K–$30K | Available with competing offer, clawback if you leave inside 12 months. Standard mid-market SaaS ask. |
| President's Club | Top 10% of segment | All-expenses trip + $10K bonus. Cultural signal — the top-of-org kids know each other by name. |
| Benefits | Full medical, 401k 3% match, unlimited PTO (avg. 18 days taken) | Standard-plus SaaS. HubSpot's PTO is genuinely unlimited-in-practice, unusual for AE roles. |
The mistake we see most on HubSpot AE offers: candidates negotiate base and ignore accelerator visibility. The base band flexes ~$10K; the accelerator delta between "top of team" and "median" is $200K+ over four years. Push the recruiter for the last-year distribution of on-target vs. above-target attainment on this specific team before signing.
Interview process
Based on Marqee-network placements at HubSpot in the last twelve months, expect a loop with the following shape. The exact order can vary but the round types are stable.
Recruiter screen (30 min)
Comp calibration and level check. Say your number range early; the recruiter will use it to route you to the right leveling committee. Do not undersell here.
Hiring-manager conversation (45 min)
Senior Sales Manager, Mid-Market walks you through the team's charter and asks you to walk through one deal in depth. Bring a written artifact you can share on screen.
Mock discovery call (60 min)
Live discovery on a simulated mid-market prospect. Graded on MEDDPICC discipline, question quality, and how you handle a curveball on pricing.
Written business case (async)
Territory plan for a fictional book of accounts. Two pages max. What HubSpot reads for: prioritization logic, not a boil-the-ocean plan.
Peer AE panel (60 min)
Two peer AEs from the Mid-Market team. This round is where offers are made or killed — practice their specific objection-handling patterns before showing up.
Leadership / bar-raiser + offer (async)
Senior leader from outside the immediate team, then references and offer. Marqee coaches you on which references to offer and prepares them for HubSpot's specific questions.
